Opus 1687

Phillip A. Ellis

I thought to weave for you songs,
   I thought I'd weave roundelays
and though the songs came out wrong,
I still sang a song today:
   it made many maidens long;
this roundelay is my lay.

And though the songs came out wrong,
   I still sang a song today
although my song came out wrong;
I made it my lay this day--
   it made many maidens long;
this roundelay is my lay.

Although my song came out wrong,
   I made it my lay this day--
I made it sing, made it strong:
live for love, I heard it say.
   It made many maidens long;
this roundelay is my lay.

I made it sing, made it strong:
   live for love, I heard it say,
live for love and wreak no wrong;
I heard it but, sung its way,
   it made many maidens long;
this roundelay is my lay.
