The Destination of Gideon Balcoth (Synopsis)

Clark Ashton Smith

A London business-man, on his way to his office in a thick fog, is picked up by two telescopic tentacles and finds himself on a space-ship manned by explorers from an unknown planet. They take him back to their own world as ocular proof that anything so unnatural and bizarre as humanity could exist. Another ship from the same world has picked up a Circassian girl. Balcoth and the girl, after being inspected by the inhabitants, are conveyed to an unpeopled but fertile moon of this planet, and left there.
