Apart from the study of ethnology and mythology, Shaemus Mc-Gilder's main interest is the frequentation of barrooms. This third interest, however, is concomitant and subsidiary to the first two: the mere consumption of strong liquors being a necessary but minor factor. Through such frequentation McGilder claims to have learned much that was missed or omitted by Bullfinch and the author of The Golden Bough. He has been for some years engaged in the writing of an opus, still untitled, which will supply numerous lacunae and correct many errors evident in the standard works dealing with the aforementioned science.
