Tempus

Clark Ashton Smith

(From Christophe des Laurières)

O lethal Acheron gliding ever
In stealth between her mouth and mine,
Between our avid limbs, however
Closely these may cleave and twine,

O stanchless time, when shall we stay
Thy flowing with a straiter kiss,
With tighter hands retain the day
That trickles down the old abyss?
